How and why
I'm between jobs and have some time free, about a week.
Buying interest
Feasibility
- Think of some stuff to do and/or an event to centre the trip around
- Aogashima is an island south of Tokyo, it's a volcanic island
- What dates?
- Depart August 2nd or 3rd (after Martin's birthday party on the 1st)
- Arrive back in time for Smash, which is the 9th and 10th
- Need some time to prepare for Smash cosplay beforehand
- Check prices for airfares
- Can be done for just under $1400
- Tax return just came in, liquid cash is available
- Jetstar again
- Apply for leave
- Not applicable
- Thrash out a rough timeline of where to be on which days
- Figure out where you'll be and book accommodation
- How much is accommodation going to cost?
- How about travel?
- JR pass?
Car hire? http://rent.toyota.co.jp/en/index.html
- How many yens will you need? Buy some yens
To do
- Book airfares
Where to go
Let's go.... Izu Islands! http://wikitravel.org/en/Izu_Islands

A heli-shuttle goes to the islands, sounds like a good way to reach Aogashima: http://www.tohoair.co.jp/english/shuttle/index.html

Tokai-Kisen ferries don’t do online booking, but you can call them 03(5472)9999 (0920-2000 every day): http://www.tokaikisen.co.jp/english/reservation/index.shtml “Before your trip, contact Izushoto Kaihatsu (03-3455-3090) to confirm service time schedules”

- 1550 Arrive on ferry at Hachijojima
- 1715 ANA1896 to Haneda - 15,190 yen
- 1815 Arrive at Haneda
Pricing
Tokyo to Hachijojima:
- 30,000 yen for airfare there and back

Hachijojima to Aogashima: * Heli is ~24,000 yen roundtrip * Ferry alternative is 4,960 yen there and back
Accommodation
- If you take the ferry from Tokyo, you save ~7500 yen on accommodation because you sleep on the ferry
- One night accommodation on Aogashima is likely to be cheaper than a night in Tokyo, don’t know how much so though
